The bus driver will stand trial for running over an elderly woman in Nizhny Novgorod.

      An investigation has been completed in Nizhny Novgorod into a criminal case against a 66-year-old bus driver who ran over a pedestrian. The incident occurred on April 9, 2025, at about 15:00 on Dyakonova Street, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region reported.

      According to it, the man ran a red light and struck an elderly woman who was crossing the road at a controlled pedestrian crossing on a green signal. The victim sustained serious injuries.

      Investigators from the specialized traffic accident investigation unit of the Main Investigative Department of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Nizhny Novgorod Region opened a criminal case under part 1 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — violation of traffic rules that by negligence caused grievous bodily harm.

      During the investigation, a sufficient body of evidence was collected confirming the driver’s guilt. The criminal case, with an approved indictment, has been sent to the Avtozavodsky District Court for consideration on the merits.

      The sanctions provided for in that article include imprisonment for a term of up to two years. An additional penalty is also possible in the form of a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in professional activities for up to three years, or without such a ban.

      Earlier it was reported that in September in Nizhny Novgorod a bus hit a courier on an electric bicycle.
