Chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod Legislative Assembly Evgeny Lyulin reported the sad news: his beloved teacher, Great Patriotic War veteran Veniamin Ivanovich Rasskazov, has died.

"A wise mentor, a true patriot who devoted his entire life to serving the Motherland. To me he was always the embodiment of a true Hero of the Fatherland. Invincible. Strong. Brave. And at the same time so simple and approachable," Lyulin wrote on his Telegram channel on September 27.

According to Lyulin, he and his classmates listened with interest to the front-line stories of the teacher, who took direct part in combat operations during the years of the Great Patriotic War.

"A young artillery gunner, the only survivor of his crew, did not abandon his gun and was ready to fight his last battle. Even the German was struck by such bravery and turned away, sparing the sergeant's life," emphasized the chairman of the Legislative Assembly.

As previously reported, the Lyskovo resident fought the German invaders on the territory of present-day Ukraine; after crossing the Dnieper he was wounded. After receiving treatment, the front-line soldier returned to service, and after the Victory he devoted his life to military affairs and to work on the patriotic education of youth.

"It is bitter and painful to realize, but when people like this are gone, an entire era goes with them," Lyulin said, adding that their memory lives on in their pupils.

Recall that in the summer of 2024 Evgeny Lyulin took part in a reunion evening for graduates of Lyskovo School No. 3. That year Veniamin Ivanovich Rasskazov turned 100.

In April 2025 the veteran received a commemorative medal from Governor Gleb Nikitin in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory.

The editorial staff of NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Veniamin Ivanovich.
