Bastrykin intervened in the case of a Nizhny Novgorod pedophile who hid a child in a sofa.

      The story about the abuse of a child in Nizhny Novgorod took a new turn after being discussed on federal television. The head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, demanded a report on the progress of the investigation and the validity of the expert conclusions in the criminal case related to the violence against the girl.

      The crime was committed in a dormitory in the Sormovo area in October 2023. A 10-year-old girl with autism went out into the corridor and disappeared. Her mother raised the alarm. Volunteers organized a search for the child, and police conducted a door-to-door search. At night the girl was found at the home of a 44-year-old neighbor. She had been hidden in his sofa. A criminal case was opened against the man on charges of committing sexual acts against a minor.

      Since his arrest he had been held in pretrial detention. Under the charge he faces up to 20 years in prison. However, a forensic psychiatric examination found the man legally insane, deciding that at the time of the crime he could not be held accountable for his actions. As a result, instead of prison he was sent for compulsory treatment. The victim’s parents are categorically opposed to this decision.

      On the TV program the girl’s mother said she doubts the validity of the examination. The victim’s side has already appealed the court decision.

      Head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Bastrykin instructed the head of the regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee, Ayrat Akhmetshin, to submit a detailed report on the results of the investigation, the expert examinations carried out, and the arguments raised on the TV program.

      Earlier it was reported that the abuse of children by peers in Bor led to a criminal case.
