On September 24, a ceremony was held at the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin to award the winners of a tourist quest announced by the mascots of the Nizhny Novgorod Region — NiNo the fawn and Gor the woodpecker. This was reported by the regional Ministry of Tourism and Crafts.

“The region’s symbols first appeared in 2020, on the eve of the 800th anniversary of Nizhny Novgorod. In the anniversary year NiNo the fawn and Gor the woodpecker toured the entire region, becoming embodiments of change. This year, on City Day the characters made themselves known again: first there was a large-scale quest and the launch of social media accounts. Grand plans lie ahead, and today the quest winners set off on a journey along a new family tourist route from our updated mascots,” said Sergey Yakovlev, Minister of Tourism and Crafts of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

Over the course of a month, participants in the quest around Nizhny Novgorod helped NiNo and Gor gather ten lost magical items so that the characters could return to their real forms. Participants could follow this path using special clues that were regularly posted on the project’s official social media pages.

As a result of the quest, first place was taken by Tatyana Chavykina’s team; second place went to Ella Makina’s team, who, together with her husband and two sons, not only solved the puzzles but also created beautiful photographs of the artifacts. Third place was taken by Nizhny Novgorod resident Alexander Unzhakov.

The project was developed by the Ministry of Tourism and Crafts of the Nizhny Novgorod Region and is aimed at popularizing tourism and promoting the region’s tourist potential — this is one of the objectives of the national project “Tourism and Hospitality.”

The quest winners were the first to embark on a journey along the new family tourist route around the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. All Nizhny Novgorod residents and visitors to the region will be able to travel it for free starting October 4.

“May the new route become the beginning of unforgettable discoveries for every traveler! I congratulate all the quest participants and wish them further success, inspiration and vivid emotions!” added Sergey Yakovlev.

Recall that the national project “Tourism and Hospitality” launched in Russia in 2025 at the initiative of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. It involves developing infrastructure, manufacturing equipment, training personnel for the tourism sector, promoting travel within Russia, and ensuring high-quality service and safe, comfortable trips.
