Nizhny Novgorod native Andrey Chertkov has been appointed head of the DPR government.

      Politics Nizhegorodets Andrey Chertkov has been appointed chairman of the government of the Donetsk People’s Republic. His candidacy was supported by deputies of the DPR People’s Council, the region’s head Denis Pushilin reported.

      According to Pushilin, before moving to the republican government Chertkov "proved himself honorably in service in Nizhny Novgorod," and then "strengthened the regional team [of the DPR]." During that time he showed himself to be "an experienced manager and a team player," the head of the republic emphasized.

      New tasks for the chairman of the government include "helping people in the situation with the water blockade" and "ensuring an incident-free heating season." The course has also been set to "step up the pace of the peaceful revival of Donbass."

      Special emphasis has been placed on the road network: by 2030 about 3,500 kilometers are to be restored. "Our president has set the task — to fully restore the republic by 2030. We can achieve this goal through participation in national projects and federal programs. It is necessary to complete the restoration of 15,000 civilian facilities that are already under way. Among them are hundreds of schools, kindergartens, hospitals," Pushilin noted.

      Another goal is to return Donbass to the status of a leading industrial center. To do this, the head of the DPR said, the restoration and modernization of enterprises will be required, with priority given to the metallurgical and coal sectors.

      Recall that Chertkov has been working in Donbass since the summer of 2022. At first he was appointed Minister of Coal and Energy of the Donetsk People’s Republic; in May 2023 he became First Deputy Chairman of the Government, and in March 2025 — acting chairman of the DPR government.

      Before moving to the region he headed the Kstovsky District of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast in 2020–2022, and before that held the post of Minister of Housing and Communal Services of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.

      By the way, Evgeny Solntsev, who headed the DPR government before Chertkov, became governor of Orenburg Oblast.
