Bannikov headed the National Unity Fund after leaving the post of deputy governor.

      Deputy governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Petr Bannikov left his post of his own accord effective 1 September, the regional government press service reported.

      According to the information provided, since 2 September he has served as an advisor to the governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast on a voluntary basis.

      In addition, as of 16 September Bannikov is the director of the People's Unity Fund, created in 2024 at the initiative of Governor Gleb Nikitin. The fund provides assistance to participants in the special military operation and their family members.

      It should be noted that Bannikov's departure from the post of deputy head of the region was not unexpected. Sources reported the official's plans in late August.

      Petr Bannikov was appointed to the post of deputy governor in autumn 2021. Before that he spent several years as deputy head of the UFSB for Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
