Nizhny Novgorod's Torpedo began their road trip with a win.

      Nizhny Novgorod Sport — Nizhny Novgorod's Torpedo began their first road trip of the season with a victory: the white-and-blues beat Spartak 4-3.

      The evening at Megasport promised to be hot, since the win was vitally important for both teams. After a successful home series, Alexey Isakov's charges topped the standings without a single defeat. But for Alexey Zhamnov's team the start of the season was not easy: Spartak beat Sochi, then lost twice to Minsk Dynamo and Severstal.

      The hosts opened the scoring on the power play — in the middle of the first period Nikita Korostelyov beat Ivan Kulbakov with a one-timer.

      Right after the break Spartak doubled their advantage with a quick goal from Ivan Morozov. However, the Nizhny Novgorod side did not think of giving up and only increased the pressure on the opponent's goal. At the 28th minute Nikita Rozhkov redirected Bobby Nardella's shot, and at 31:31 Egor Vinogradov tied the score with a wrist shot.

      In the third period the teams started from scratch, and Korostelyov was the first to score, completing a brace. But late in the game the hosts took a penalty, and the Nizhny Novgorod team pulled their goalie, going out onto the ice with six skaters. With a minute and a half to go Sergey Goncharuk equalized, sending his team into overtime.

      In the 3-on-3 format the white-and-blues proved stronger; Kirill Voronin scored the winning goal for Torpedo.

      "A very interesting and spectacular match, and I want to congratulate our team on the victory. I thank all our fans for their support. During the game it was very difficult at times, especially when we started taking penalties. But then the team was able to find reserves within themselves, get back into the game and ultimately win," Torpedo head coach Alexey Isakov commented on the result.

      As part of the three-game trip our team will travel from Moscow to Sochi, where they will play the local namesake club (16 September), and then to Tolyatti for a return visit to Lada (18 September).
