      The head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed that a criminal case be opened into the death of a resident of the Nizhny Novgorod region in a road traffic accident. This was reported by the press service of the regional office of the Investigative Committee.

      According to preliminary information, the tragedy occurred in Kstovo. A pensioner was getting off a route bus when the vehicle’s driver failed to notice her and ran her over. The woman died at the scene.

      Relatives of the deceased expressed concern that the person at fault has still not been brought to justice.

      Bastrykin instructed acting head of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Andrey Dynkov, to open a criminal case and report on the results of the investigation.

      The regional office of the Interior Ministry explained that the bus was driven by a 30-year-old man who was sober at the time of the incident. According to the expert conclusion, the driver had no technical possibility to notice the passenger who bent down to retrieve her belongings. Nevertheless, proceedings in the case have been resumed.
