A new graffiti dedicated to Heroes of the Soviet Union Yevgeny and Gennady Ignatov was solemnly unveiled in the Sovetsky District of Nizhny Novgorod. The art object appeared on the wall of a transformer substation on a street bearing the name of the legendary partisans. This was reported by the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the Volunteers of Victory movement.
The graffiti was created by the Volunteers of Victory with the support of the regional government as part of the "Image of Victory" project.
The opening ceremony was attended by the chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod Duma, Yevgeny Chintsov; deputy head of the Sovetsky District administration, Roman Oznobishin; cadets from School No. 181; volunteers; and representatives of the "Movement of the First."
Yevgeny and Gennady Ignatov heroically died in October 1942 when they blew up a German echelon on the Krasnodar–Novorossiysk railway. As a result of the operation, about 500 enemy soldiers and officers were killed. Posthumously, on 7 March 1943, the brothers were awarded the title Heroes of the Soviet Union.
As Yevgeny Chintsov emphasized, the mural has become a symbol of remembrance and recognition of the feat of those who gave their lives for the freedom of the Motherland. According to Maria Samodelkina, head of the regional branch of the Volunteers of Victory, street art is a way to speak to young people in a language they understand, reminding them of the heroism of the past.
It should be noted that the art object was created as part of the regional patriotic project "Image of Victory," which was recognized as one of the 100 best patriotic initiatives in the country by the Presidential Grants Foundation. Over five years, 338 graffiti dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War and the special military operation have been created in the Nizhny Novgorod region under this program.
Earlier it was reported that an art object dedicated to Hero of the Soviet Union Yevgeny Alexandrovich Nikonov appeared in Nizhny Novgorod. It was also reported that Nizhny Novgorod School No. 129 was named after Hero of the Soviet Union Dmitry Mineev.
