      SportsA bad run at the start of the new VHL season continues for the hockey club Torpedo-Gorky. The Nizhny Novgorod side once again failed to secure a win and left empty-handed, losing to Ryazan-VDV in a home game.

      The previous two matches against Novokuznetsk's Metallurg and Tula's AKM were also lost by the Gorky side. Despite the defeats, Dmitry Kosmachev’s charges, who took over the team this offseason, already have two points thanks to shootout series in earlier games.

      The start of the game proved extremely unlucky for the farm club. Already in the seventh minute of the first period the visitors scored twice against the Nizhny Novgorod team. The hosts reacted quickly and soon earned a power play of their own — Andrey Krutov found the net for the opponents.

      In the second period the Ryazan side again seized the initiative and restored a two-goal lead — 1:3. After that Torpedo-Gorky stepped up their attack. Near the end of the second frame Ilya Chefanov cut the deficit with a strike from a tight angle.

      The third twenty minutes were under the full control of the Avtozavod team. The side applied heavy pressure but were unable to convert their chances. The match ended with a victory for Ryazan-VDV, who managed to hold on to the narrow lead.

      Thus the reigning Russian champions Torpedo-Gorky remain winless this season. The team will continue their home stretch on 11 September with a match against Dizel.

      Meanwhile the senior team under Alexey Isakov, who led the farm club to the title in the 2024/2025 season, got off to a highly successful start. On 6 September Torpedo beat Salavat Yulaev, and on 8 September they won the showdown against Igor Larionov’s SKA.
