At the beginning of September, residents of Nizhny Novgorod began complaining about fuel problems. At some filling stations there has been no gasoline for several days in a row. AI-92 and AI-95 are especially scarce. As Izvestia journalists found out, a similar situation has already been encountered in more than ten regions of the country. In the Nizhny Novgorod region the problem is felt acutely: local independent gas stations are forced to operate "from tanker to tanker" or even temporarily close.
According to Sergey Kaufman, an analyst at the Finam Financial Group, the fuel shortage is the result of several factors at once — reduced production and high demand. And until the situation stabilizes, interruptions in gasoline supplies may persist. Refineries are unable to meet demand. Some of them have not shipped gasoline for several weeks. At the same time, wholesale fuel prices have risen so much that buying on the exchange has become unprofitable. Independent filling stations, which have no own storage facilities and no access to production, are suffering particularly badly.
Pavel Bazhenov, president of the Independent Fuel Union, explained that it was precisely the rise in wholesale prices that dealt the main blow to private stations. They simply cannot operate at a loss.
The situation is being aggravated by a seasonal surge in demand: at the end of summer and beginning of autumn people travel actively and agricultural work is underway, so gasoline is consumed faster than usual.
Dmitry Tortev, a member of the expert council of the State Duma’s Committee for the Protection of Competition, noted that at first fuel interruptions were localized, but now they have spread to more and more regions, including the Nizhny Novgorod region.
Earlier, authorities said that the domestic fuel market in the country remains stable and fully supplied.
Recall that gasoline prices in the Nizhny Novgorod region rose to 60.56 rubles per liter.
