A 26-year-old Avtozavod resident with a prior conviction attacked a 28-year-old woman from Nizhny Novgorod with a screwdriver and tried to take her backpack. The man was detained shortly after the incident by patrol officers, the press service of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
The incident occurred near one of the buildings on Partizanskaya Street. According to the victim, an unknown man approached her from behind, grabbed her by the neck and struck her several times with a screwdriver. The woman fell to the ground, after which the assailant tried to pull the backpack off her shoulders. However, bystanders drawn by the victim's screams prevented him from completing the crime. The attacker fled the scene.
Medical personnel who arrived in response to the call provided the woman with the necessary assistance.
Patrol officers detained the alleged offender not far from the scene. The man admitted his guilt. In addition, he was charged with refusing to comply with lawful police orders.
A criminal case has been opened against the detainee on charges of robbery. The penalty under this article provides for imprisonment for up to 10 years. The suspect has been remanded in custody; investigative actions continue.
Earlier it was reported that a man with a pistol took a BMW worth 13 million rubles from a Nizhny Novgorod resident. He was also promptly detained.
