With the onset of autumn, the second peak of tick activity has begun in the region. This was announced at a press conference at the NOIC by the deputy head of the regional office of Rospotrebnadzor, Natalia Sadykova, NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" correspondent reports.
According to her, autumn ticks are as dangerous as spring ones, especially in forest areas experiencing epidemiological tension.
The second season is linked both to the reproduction of the bloodsuckers and to increased mushroom-picking trips. People visit forests more often, where they encounter ticks.
Sadykova reminded that repellents should be used, tight closed clothing worn, and thorough checks carried out after walks — including of animals and items brought back from a walk.
She said that in the northern districts of the region ticks attack people more often. "These territories are endemic; you need to be more cautious there and be sure to submit the tick for testing and receive prophylactic immunoglobulin if the tick has nevertheless attached. It must be administered within three days after the bite," the specialist added.
Earlier it was reported that since March ticks have bitten more than 8,000 people in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
