Researchers at the Psychophysiology Laboratory of Lobachevsky Nizhny Novgorod State University are working on an intelligent system capable of detecting stress in schoolchildren at early stages. This was reported on the university’s Telegram channel.

The technology relies on data from smartwatches and fitness trackers. Such devices record tiny changes in heart rate — signals that the child may not notice, and adults usually perceive only as consequences: irritability, fatigue, or tears.

Project lead Sofya Polevaya explained that the main indicator is heart rate variability. The body reacts to overload with barely perceptible changes in heartbeat, and it is these markers that the neural network learns to identify. As a result, the pulse becomes a kind of diary of the child’s condition.

Researchers note that teenagers cannot always honestly talk about how they feel — sometimes out of fear, and sometimes simply because they have difficulty finding the words. The system being developed is meant to act as a translator between the body and adults, helping to notice warning signs in time and prevent the development of serious problems.

Earlier, a doctor explained how to raise a healthy child.
