Widespread vaccination helps not only to reduce the severity of epidemics but also to significantly reduce economic losses. This was stated by the deputy head of the regional office of Rospotrebnadzor, Natalya Sadykova, at a press conference at NOIC.
According to her, the more people receive the flu vaccine, the shorter and milder the epidemic season. Vaccinated people are less likely to experience complications and, as a rule, return to work more quickly.
Sadykova paid special attention to the benefits for employers. According to Rospotrebnadzor specialists' calculations, the economic damage from a single case of flu averages 44,000 rubles. This amount includes losses from temporary disability, treatment costs, hospitalization and medication.
"If up to 75% of employees in a workplace are vaccinated, an epidemic inside the organization can usually be avoided," Sadykova emphasized.
She also noted that a significant portion of the region's population receives the vaccine free of charge. As of last year, about 1.5 million people in the oblast were vaccinated for free, although some are vaccinated at their own expense.
It was previously reported that a rise in ARVI incidence in the Nizhny Novgorod region is expected by the end of September.
