From August 25 to September 3, 2025, specialists from the chemical-toxicological department of the Nizhny Novgorod testing laboratory of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "VNIIZh" conducted an examination of dairy product samples as part of food monitoring. During the analysis of butter, nonconformities were found in the "fatty-acid composition" indicator, the press service of VNIIZh reported.
The results have been entered into the automated system "VESTA". The information has also been sent to the Rosselkhoznadzor Directorate for the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Mari El for further response.
The fatty-acid composition reflects the balance of different fatty acids contained in milk fat. Excessive consumption of products with elevated levels of certain acids can adversely affect health, increasing the risk of cardiovascular and other chronic diseases.
Replacing milk fat with vegetable alternatives reduces the nutritional value and worsens the taste characteristics of the product. Natural butter contains vitamins, and substituting it with vegetable fats, which are more often saturated, diminishes its benefits.
In addition, excessive consumption of products with a large number of food additives can negatively affect the body's condition. Such substances can disrupt the gut microbiota, provoke allergic reactions, and with long-term consumption in significant quantities — even have carcinogenic effects.
