A suspect has been detained in connection with the mass alcohol poisoning in Balakhna.

       Incidents — The first suspect has been detained in Balakhna in the case of five people who died after consuming surrogate alcohol. He turned out to be a local resident who combines work as a florist with duties as the building superintendent.

      According to the TV channel "Kstati" (16+), the man has already been arraigned, but he categorically denies his guilt. In a conversation with journalists he said:

      "I know that I am not guilty. I don't know what they were drinking or what they consumed. I don't know these people."

      The detainee claims that the alcohol found in his home was medical and intended solely for household needs. According to him, he was not engaged in manufacturing or selling counterfeit alcohol.

      The man also emphasized that he did not know the deceased and does not understand why he is considered involved in the tragedy. He expressed confidence that the investigation will establish the truth.

      At the moment no formal charges have been brought against the suspect. The investigation continues.

      Recall that the chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, ordered a report to be presented on the criminal case opened after the mass alcohol poisoning in Balakhna.
