      A bitumen spill occurred on the R-158 federal highway "Nizhny Novgorod — Saratov" in the Pochinkovsky district following a road traffic accident. The press service of the interregional office of Rosprirodnadzor for the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Mordovia reported this.

      According to the report, the accident happened on the morning of September 4 and led to damage to a tanker carrying a flammable liquid. Part of it leaked onto the roadway.

      The damaged vehicle was towed to an exit onto an unpaved road, as a result of which bitumen got onto the soil.

      Rosprirodnadzor specialists at the scene are determining the extent of the damage and possible environmental consequences. Following the inspection, the agency will take measures within its authority.

      Earlier it was reported that the department’s specialists inspected a large landfill in the Pervomaisky district.
