A Nizhny Novgorod–based company producing panel-frame houses increased its output thanks to "Productivity of Labour".

      Experts from the regional competence center (RCC), together with employees of the MKD branch of Shinglas Plant LLC in the town of Semenov, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, summarized the results of implementing lean manufacturing tools at the enterprise under the federal project "Labor Productivity" of the national project "Efficient and Competitive Economy."

      The company manufactures panel-frame houses and glued wooden structures.

      The pilot production line chosen was the process of manufacturing house kits. This line produces 99% of the company's output.

      According to the Minister of Industry, Trade and Entrepreneurship of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Maksim Cherkasov, over six months RCC experts together with company staff analyzed the pilot site and identified 19 bottlenecks in the flow, among which were unnecessary operator movements, time losses during raw material transportation, and long waits for defect correction from the previous operation.

      "RCC specialists, together with the company's project team, developed an action plan and implemented solutions to improve the production process. For example, they developed a competency matrix, created an additional passage between workshops to reduce the distance of material movement, and provided each workstation with additional sets of drawings. The innovations reduced the time to manufacture a set of panels from 18 to 11 hours. Productivity increased by 11 percent," Maksim Cherkasov said.

      RCC specialists also trained 30 company employees in lean technologies and prepared two internal trainers who will be able to train their colleagues independently in the future.

      In Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, nine woodworking industry enterprises are implementing the tools of the federal project "Labor Productivity" of the national project "Efficient and Competitive Economy." In total, 296 regional companies are participants in the federal project.
