Representatives from nearly twenty Russian regions are taking part in the 10th Oka ParaFest culture and sports festival, which is being held in Dzerzhinsk.

      Representatives from almost twenty regions of Russia are taking part in the 10th culture and sports festival "Oksky ParaFest," which is being held in Dzerzhinsk. The initiator of the event is the Dzerzhinsk public organization of wheelchair users "ParaPlan." The venue is the "City of Sport" camp. The honorary guests at the festive opening of ParaFest — the mayor of the city, Mikhail Klinkov; members of the City Duma committees on social issues, education, culture, physical education and sports Irina Skryagina and Nika Papava; and the President of the PODA Federation of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Dmitry Kokarev — congratulated the participants on the start of the anniversary festival and wished them good play in the competitions. "The festival is a real celebration of sport!" Nika Papava told the participants. "Its geography is constantly expanding, more and more participants are coming, and the event's material and technical support is improving. This shows that Oksky ParaFest is a necessary and interesting event for all of us. I wish you to get as many positive emotions as possible over these days!" "You are all heroes of our time. By taking part in ParaFest you prove that sport is accessible to everyone. Your strength of spirit inspires thousands of people.       As noted by Mikhail Chetvertakov, the head of the public organization ParaPlan, the first festival in 2015 gathered seventy participants. Even then the organizers realized how much demand there was for such an event. This time more than two hundred representatives from various regions of the country came to Dzerzhinsk. Among the participants are guests from the Luhansk People’s Republic. They practice sledge hockey, weightlifting and sitting volleyball. "We are far from sporting heights. But this is life, communication, joy," said Alexander Korsun, a resident of Luhansk. "Events like this lift the mood, add motivation to not give up and to do sports," supported his fellow countryman, SVO participant Dmitry Sibov.

      The festival program is very full. Thirty-five sets of medals are being contested in adaptive and Paralympic sports — darts, boccia, adaptive horseback riding, shuffleboard, wheelchair sprint, fencing, etc. A useful and important part of the event is always communication with speakers who share their experience and approaches to socialization and psychological support for people with disabilities. This year one of the lecturers was Vladimir Vaskevich — head of inclusive programs at the All-Russian forum "Teachers of Russia," a blogger and a blind traveler. Master classes — makeup, pottery, floristry, soap making — are organized for everyone who wishes to attend. The event is held with grant support from PJSC Sibur Holding under the "Formula of Good Deeds" program.
