Incidents: In Nizhny Novgorod a minor convicted of a number of terrorism-related crimes has been sentenced. This was reported by the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
The investigation established that in 2023 the teenager voluntarily joined an international terrorist organization banned in Russia. Guided by radical religious beliefs, he underwent distance training related to preparing for terrorist activities. After that he acquired components for making an improvised explosive device and stored them at his home.
In addition, the convicted individual created and distributed the organization's symbols online, propagated its ideas and demonstrated an intention to carry out a terrorist attack in the region.
His illegal actions became known to officers of the FSB Directorate for the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The teenager was detained, after which investigators conducted searches at his place of residence. During them they seized parts for an explosive device, extremist literature and symbols of the banned organization.
The 2nd Western District Military Court found the collected evidence sufficient and sentenced the minor to 8 years' imprisonment to be served in a strict-regime penal colony.
The Investigative Committee reminds that terrorist crimes are classified as serious and especially serious offenses, and that severe penalties are provided for committing them — up to life imprisonment.
