The inscription "To Stalin's Falcon" will reappear on the monument to Valery Chkalov in Nizhny Novgorod. This was reported by the press service of the regional branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF).

The monument, created by sculptor Isaak Mendelevich, was installed in 1940 on Minin and Pozharsky Square. Originally the pedestal was adorned with the inscription "To Valery Chkalov — the great pilot of our time", as well as the words "To Stalin's Falcon". However, later the metal letters of that phrase were cut off, leaving only traces of the fastenings.

As noted by the head of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the CPRF and State Duma deputy Vladislav Yegorov, the regional government considered the return of the historical wording justified. A draft design for the restoration work has already been prepared, proposals for the technology to be used have been compiled, and approvals have been initiated with the Office for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites.

Earlier it was reported that the question of erecting a monument to Joseph Stalin in Nizhny Novgorod was postponed again. Meanwhile, a monument to Stalin was unveiled in Bor in 2020.
