Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights Valery Fadeev held an interactive discussion titled "Why Should a Human Rights Defender Be Active?" as part of the educational program "Human Rights Defenders, a New Generation." The program is being held in Nizhny Novgorod at the GosStart center for training civil servants (a Rosmolodezh project).
The meeting also discussed the situation regarding the status of teachers in schools, reports the NTA-Privolzhye news agency. According to Fadeev, today teachers' rights often go unnoticed, and parents increasingly perceive education as a mere service.
"Where did the expression 'to call a teacher to the carpet' come from? It is a consequence of the political decision of the 1990s when education was officially classified as a service," the presidential adviser noted.
Fadeev drew a comparison: "At the dry cleaner's, if they don't remove a stain from your clothing, you file a complaint. It is the same in school—some parents think: why didn't you raise our child properly?"
He stressed that two professions remain key for Russia today — defender of the Fatherland and teacher. "Without education, the country has no future. Therefore it is necessary to strengthen the status of the teacher and, above all, to restore trust in them at school," Fadeev concluded.
