Since March, 8,086 visits to medical institutions in the Nizhny Novgorod Region have been recorded regarding tick attachments, among the victims — 2,413 children. This was reported by the regional office of Rospotrebnadzor.
The largest number of cases was registered in Pavlovsky District (541), Dzerzhinsk (435), Bor District (382), as well as in Gorodetsky (285), Vetluzhsky (271), Shakhunsky (267), Kstovsky (257), Urensky (224), Vyksunsky (219) and Semyonovsky Districts (193). In Nizhny Novgorod city the leaders are Avtozavodsky (656), Prioksky (505), Leninsky (496) and Sovetsky (408) districts.
Laboratory testing was performed on 8,682 ticks, of which 8,250 were removed from humans. Pathogens were detected in 1,585 cases. Tick infection rates were 20.1% for Borrelia, 3.0% for Anaplasma, 0.6% for Ehrlichia, and 0.3% for the tick-borne encephalitis virus.
Ticks infected with the encephalitis virus were found in 10 municipal districts, including Shakhunsky, Krasnobakovsky, Bogorodsky, Urensky and Pavlovsky. Also identified were 1,363 ticks infected with Borrelia, 161 with Anaplasma, and 33 with Ehrlichia.
To date, six cases of tick-borne encephalitis have been registered. In three of them the infection occurred in the Nizhny Novgorod Region — in Varnavinsky and Balakhninsky districts and in Vyksa. In the other cases the ticks attached in other regions; however, the victims did not seek medical help and no prophylaxis was carried out.
In addition, 119 cases of ixodid tick-borne borreliosis have been confirmed, including eight in children.
A vaccine against tick-borne viral encephalitis was received by 10,866 people, of whom 1,541 were children. Emergency prophylaxis with immunoglobulin was administered to 1,386 people, including 1,333 children.
Earlier it was reported that the Nizhny Novgorod Region entered the top regions where mouse fever is common.
