The Nizhny Novgorod team "Kuzya Lakomkin", prepared with the expert support of the IT campus "NEYMARK", will take part in the final of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) in Baku, Azerbaijan. The competition starts on August 31, 2025.

Teams from 140 universities across more than 50 countries will compete for the championship title.

"Withstanding tough competition from 70,000 talented contestants from around the world is an indisputable and outstanding achievement. We are proud of the finalists and will be rooting for them. For us they are already winners," said Yegor Polyakov, Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

The team members, N. I. Lobachevsky Nizhny Novgorod State University (NNSU) students Alexey Kruglov, Vladislav Polozov and Damir Sadikov, advanced from the qualifying stage of the championship, which involved students from 3,400 universities in 103 countries. As a result, they made it into the narrow circle of the world’s strongest teams, earning the right to compete for the title of world champion.

"The Nizhny Novgorod team's advancement to the world championship final is clear proof that the region's IT education development strategy is the right one. Our students' victories testify to the determination of young specialists and the extremely high level of the Nizhny Novgorod IT school. They also highlight the significance of NEYMARK University, which today serves as a key element in training talented young people," noted Ekaterina Solntseva, Deputy Chair of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

Rector of Lobachevsky University Oleg Trofimov wished the students to show their traditionally high results again this year.

"ICPC is one of the most prestigious international programming competitions for students. NNSU's participation confirms that the personnel training system for IT specialties established in the region works extremely effectively. Preparation of Olympiad competitors is carried out at Lobachevsky University on the basis of the Center for Olympiad Programming of the ITMM Institute. The established system allows for high results. For example, in 2021 Lobachevsky University became the absolute ICPC world champion," Oleg Trofimov emphasized.

Organizational and methodological support for the "Kuzya Lakomkin" team was provided by the Olympiad Programming Laboratory of NEYMARK University. Its head, Alexey Shmelyov, a silver medalist at the world programming championship, personally trained the students preparing for the ICPC.

"Systematic work with active young people who seek to go beyond the standard curriculum is a strategic priority for NEYMARK University. We create an environment where a purposeful student or schoolchild can develop at maximum speed and quickly reach a world-class level," emphasized Alexey Shmelyov.

The ICPC World Finals have been held since 1977 and are recognized by leading technology companies and universities worldwide as a benchmark in training in algorithms and software engineering. In 2021, Nizhny Novgorod students from NNSU represented Russia with distinction and became the absolute champions among 119 teams worldwide.

Recall that the IT campus "NEYMARK" is an interuniversity educational ecosystem. Located in Nizhny Novgorod, known for its engineering and scientific schools and IT community, the campus combines student education and advanced research, focusing on the current needs of Russian business.

Currently, five educational programs developed jointly with the largest companies of the Russian IT industry are being implemented: in artificial intelligence and computer vision, technologies of artificial and augmented intelligence, microelectronics, information security, and digital technologies in construction. The campus’s research centers and laboratories carry out advanced research in the same areas. The IT campus also retrains IT specialists, pays special attention to supporting and developing talented schoolchildren and students, and improves teachers’ qualifications.

By order of President Vladimir Putin, a network of modern campuses is being created in Russia. By 2030 the country should see a constellation of 25 campuses. One of them has already been fully built in Moscow on the basis of Bauman Moscow State Technical University. Currently, with the support of the national project "Youth and Children", 24 such student towns are being designed and built. By 2036 the number of campuses will increase to 40. The campus concepts envision the creation of a unique and comprehensive environment for individual and team development with many open educational spaces and transformable classrooms. This will help form a common corporate culture among teachers, students and researchers. Project funding is provided from federal and regional budgets, as well as from extrabudgetary sources. The Government of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia are working on this initiative.

Two rounds of applications for campus creation were held, resulting in 17 projects being selected (8 projects in 2021 and 9 projects in 2022). Eight more projects were specified by separate instructions from President Vladimir Putin. They will be implemented in Zabaykalsky Krai, Kamchatka Krai, Primorsky Krai, Murmansk and Smolensk Oblasts, the Republic of Buryatia, and two projects in Moscow at the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering (MGSU) and the Moscow State Technological University "Stankin".
