SocietyThe Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Evgeny Lyulin, proposed strengthening protection for teachers from pressure by students and their parents.

In his Telegram channel the politician noted that in the digital age teachers increasingly face disrespect and insults that spread online. Many videos appear on the internet showing schoolchildren mocking teachers.

"And these are not harmless pranks, but at times outright insults. It makes my hair stand on end. If I were in the parents' place — I'd turn my head away! Instead, mothers and fathers stand up to defend their child and curse the teachers, the school, the education system," the speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast complained.

Lyulin admitted that he himself was not the most exemplary pupil in the past, but in his day teachers were respected and parents supported teachers on disciplinary matters. Now, in his view, teachers are deprived of the ability to defend their authority because they are not even allowed to respond sternly to provocations.

The speaker also mentioned that in 2023 a law was passed banning the use of smartphones during lessons and obliging school administrations to protect both students and teachers. However, in his opinion, these measures are insufficient.

Lyulin emphasized that the number of conflicts in schools continues to grow, and, in this regard, the Russian Ministry of Education has decided to create special commissions to protect the honor and dignity of teachers. It is also planned to form a Council to ensure the interests of teachers, which will be headed by Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov.

"I believe a legal mechanism is needed that will protect the teacher — from spoiled students, from rude parents. And from moralizing colleagues who can now pounce on someone for photos on their personal social media page. School should become a place where people are taught, developed and brought up, not bullied and devalued. Only then can we count on a teacher's dedication," the parliamentarian concluded.

Earlier it was reported that on average parents spend 15,900 rubles preparing a child for school in Nizhny Novgorod.
