      A refugee convicted of extremism was stripped of Russian citizenship in Nizhny Novgorod. This was reported by "Kommersant-Privolzhye."

      According to the information, the man obtained Russian citizenship in a simplified procedure — as a refugee forced to leave Abkhazia with his family. In 2023 he received a suspended sentence for organizing the activities of an extremist religious organization. This offense can be grounds for stripping Russian citizenship.

      The man stated that he had lived in the Russian Federation for a long time, was married to a Russian citizen, and also had a positive character reference from his workplace. Despite this, the court deprived the accused of Russian citizenship.

      The court added that the man will be able to continue residing in Russia, which means he can work and maintain family life.
