      A clandestine production of tobacco products was discovered by officers of the Economic Security and Anti‑Corruption Department (UEBiPK) of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region, together with the regional directorate of the Federal Security Service (FSB) and with the participation of specialists from the interregional directorate of the Federal Service for Alcohol and Tobacco Market Regulation for the Volga Federal District (PFO). This was reported on her Telegram channel by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Irina Volk.

      As part of operational-search measures, with the force support of the Russian National Guard (Rosgvardiya), police detained a man believed to be the organizer of the illegal business.

      During searches of three warehouse premises and apartments of the persons involved in Arzamas, 80 pallets with components for the manufacture of cigarettes, a machine for their production and other items of evidentiary value were seized.

      The detainee explained that he was engaged in the production and storage of tobacco products, and also transported them to other regions of Russia for subsequent sale.

      An investigator from the Main Investigative Directorate of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod Region has opened a criminal case on signs of a crime under part 2 of Article 171.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. A preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave the area and to observe proper behavior has been imposed on the suspect.

      Measures are currently ongoing to identify accomplices in the unlawful activity.
