Two general education schools in the Nizhny Novgorod region will begin the new school year in a renewed form. By September 1, major renovations were completed at the school in the village of Vozrozhdenie in the Knyaginin district and at Secondary School No. 2 in the town of Lyskovo. The work was carried out as part of the regional program "Modernization of School Education Systems."

According to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Nizhny Novgorod region, the school in Vozrozhdenie is designed for 320 students, while the Lyskovo school can accommodate up to 740 pupils. Both educational institutions provide schooling from grades 1 through 11.

Head of the regional education ministry Mikhail Puchkov noted that major renovations had never previously been carried out on these buildings, which were built in the 1970s.

At the school in the village of Vozrozhdenie, the work took one year and five months. The roof, façade, interior spaces, engineering and electrical systems were repaired; video surveillance systems, a panic button and an automatic fire alarm system were installed. A new sports ground and an obstacle course for physical education classes and safety and homeland-defense courses were also equipped.

Nearly 60 million rubles were allocated to modernize the institution from federal, regional and local budgets. Of that, 47 million went directly to the repairs, and the remaining funds were used to purchase furniture, computer equipment and interactive panels.

School principal Svetlana Kalinkina reported that during the reconstruction the institution also received a grant of 4 million rubles from the regional government. The funds were directed to the development of agricultural classes—laboratory equipment, a greenhouse, a tractor and a power tiller were purchased. This will make it possible to implement agrotechnology-oriented programs and to develop students’ vocational skills.

"Last year the children studied growing vegetables, greens and berries, planted dozens of plants and 40 fruit trees themselves. Based on the results of the qualification exam, ninth-graders received certificates in the profession of 'fruit and vegetable grower.' Thanks to the grant, we will be able to make the education even more interesting and practice-oriented," emphasized Svetlana Kalinkina.

In Lyskovo, the major renovation of Secondary School No. 2 was completed in just over a year. The façade and roof were renewed, windows and doors were replaced, water drainage, heating and ventilation systems were modernized, and new fire alarm and access control systems were installed. Interior spaces—classrooms, corridors, gyms and the cafeteria—also underwent full reconstruction.

187 million rubles were allocated from federal and regional budgets for the renovation and equipping of the Lyskovo school. An additional 41 million was directed to equipment purchases, and another 25 million from the municipal budget was allocated for improvement of the adjacent grounds.

"We completely renewed the school furniture, equipped the science and technology classrooms, and also the library. I am sure the children will be thrilled with the new school. A modern and cozy environment will be an incentive for new achievements," shared school principal Olga Anisimova.

In total, by September 1, 11 schools in the Nizhny Novgorod region will reopen after major renovations.

Creating a comfortable educational environment is a key direction of the national project "Youth and Children," being implemented from 2025 at the behest of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The national project includes nine federal programs, including "Teachers and Mentors," "Leading Schools," "Professionalitet," "All the Best for Children" and others.

Earlier it was reported that Nizhny Novgorod's Minister of Education and Science Mikhail Puchkov presented to the heads and teachers of the region's educational organizations the main changes awaiting the system in the 2025/2026 school year.

It should also be recalled that 11 schools were built in the Nizhny Novgorod region under concession agreements.
