A new series of open festivals "Streets of Sport" (0+) has kicked off in the Nizhny Novgorod region — a joint project of the interregional movement "Healthy Nation" and the gubernatorial public initiative "Social District Officer", organizers said.
The events are being held on renovated neighborhood sports grounds created in response to residents' requests with the support of social district officers or as part of the federal "Sport — the norm of life" program of the national project "Demography".
Organizers emphasize bodyweight training, the development of strength and endurance, and a safe approach to physical activity. All sessions are led by experienced coaches.
Yaroslav Kuchev, chairman of the "Healthy Nation" movement, stressed that the project's goal is to bring sport to every yard.
"Social district officers play a key role in this — they provide venues, inform residents and actively involve them in sports life," he added.
The first festival took place in the Nizhny Novgorod district on Rodionova Street. The program included football and basketball trainings, sessions on a workout area and balance boards, as well as a juggling master class.
"Everyone gathered — young and old alike. People eagerly take part in such events. It's especially pleasing that the organizer is a team with a lot of experience — 'Healthy Nation'. Everything went great," said social district officer Anna Plyusnina.
The sports festivals will continue in the Nizhny Novgorod region until November 2025 and will cover dozens of settlements. Their program includes trainings and master classes in calisthenics, stretching, functional training, kettlebell sport, boccia, yoga, slacklining and juggling.
The project's uniqueness is its mobility. A team of top regional coaches travels to different towns and settlements to hold accessible sports events locally.
The first offsite event took place on 24 August in Dzerzhinsk, in Raduga Park. Residents were offered classes in acroyoga, kettlebell sport, strength athletics, arm wrestling and balance boards.
The next festivals will be held on 13 September in Bogorodsk, 14 September in Arzamas, and 20 September in Kstovo.
