      Incidents

      A 25-year-old unemployed woman from Nizhny Novgorod fell victim to telephone scammers and lost almost two million rubles, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region reports.

      According to available information, unknown callers phoned the woman for three days, posing as employees of the tax service and a bank. The perpetrators claimed that money was allegedly being withdrawn from her account, and that to preserve her savings she urgently needed to transfer them to "safe accounts."

      Trusting the fraudsters, the woman took out several online loans totaling 553,000 rubles. In addition, she transferred 1,274,543 rubles of personal savings. As a result, the scammers obtained a total of 1,827,543 rubles from her.

      The police have opened a criminal case under the charge of fraud on a particularly large scale. Law enforcement officers are currently investigating all the details of the incident.

      Earlier it was reported that an elderly resident of Kstovo sold three apartments and two cars after falling for scammers.
