A 16-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      On the night of 26 August in the Sosnovsky District of the Nizhny Novgorod Region a fatal road traffic accident occurred involving a minor motorcyclist.

      According to the regional State Traffic Inspectorate, a 16-year-old teenager ran a red light at an intersection and collided with a Hyundai car. As a result of the crash the young rider died at the scene. The driver of the passenger car sustained injuries.

      Inspectors note that the tragedy was the result of the teenager's lack of the necessary knowledge and skills to operate motorcycles.

      The State Traffic Inspectorate of the Nizhny Novgorod Region urges parents to act responsibly and not give in to their children's wishes. Before buying a motorcycle it is important to make sure that the teenager has reached the age for obtaining a driver's license, has completed training at a driving school and possesses safe driving skills. It is particularly emphasized that allowing minors to operate vehicles without documents and protective equipment is unacceptable.

      Earlier it was reported that in the first half of the year 73 traffic accidents caused by children (under 16) occurred in the region. In 25 cases they were riding bicycles, in 48 — personal mobility devices.
