The project to adapt a 19th-century residential building at 14a Kozhevennaya Street in Nizhny Novgorod for modern use received a positive conclusion from the state expertise. This is reported in the EGRZ.

The expertise reviewed the design documentation and the results of engineering surveys. Work will be carried out within the framework of preserving an object of regional cultural heritage significance. The developer is LLC "Istoriya-NN"; the project was prepared by the company "Veles NN".

The ASIRIS guide to Kozhevennaya Street notes that house No. 14a is known as an example of early 19th-century Neoclassical architecture. It was built in 1823 by merchant Nikolai Chuzhestrantsev to a design by architect I.E. Efimov. The house’s façade is decorated with bas-reliefs of characters from Maxim Gorky’s play The Lower Depths, made after the images of actors from the Nizhny Novgorod Drama Theater’s 1967 production.

Earlier, the state expertise had already approved the reconstruction project for another historic site on Kozhevennaya — house No. 11, where, at the initiative of Alexei Maximovich Gorky, the "Stolby" teahouse was opened for the city’s poor.

We also reported that schoolchildren are creating digital copies of old buildings in Nizhny Novgorod.
