The ZSNO Committee approved a cooperation agreement with the Gomel Region.

      Deputies of the relevant committee of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region approved a cooperation agreement with the Gomel Region of Belarus. The document covers a wide range of areas — from trade and industry to science, culture and the social sphere. This was reported by the Legislative Assembly’s press service.

      The agreement was signed on 27 June 2025 as part of the XII Forum of the Regions of Russia and Belarus in Nizhny Novgorod. It underwent all the necessary procedures, including registration with the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, and has now received the approval of the Legislative Assembly’s relevant committee.

      As Chairman of the parliament Yevgeny Lyulin noted, this agreement represents a new stage in the development of relations between the regions. Whereas previously interaction was limited to the exchange of goods, today joint projects are being implemented: the production of cars, trams, electric buses and machine tools.

      According to Lyulin, in the first quarter of 2025 the trade turnover of the Nizhny Novgorod Region with Belarus increased by 25%, and imports — by 60%. He emphasized that the business impulses from our regions help develop the real sector of the Union State’s economy.

      The Committee on Economy, Industry, Support for Entrepreneurship, Trade and Tourism recommended adopting the bill in both readings at once.

      Deputy committee chairman Nikolay Upirvitsky noted that the agreement is already producing concrete results: for example, in Arzamas the Belarusian side is building a modern school for 1,500 pupils.

      Olga Guseva, Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, emphasized the strategic importance of cooperation with the Gomel Region. According to her, this is the fifth Belarusian region with which the Nizhny Novgorod Region is building partner relations. Such an expansion allows for deeper cooperation and exchange of experience.

      The agreement is aimed at strengthening ties in the fields of agriculture, investment, construction, tourism, education and sports, opening new opportunities for the development of interregional interaction.
