At a meeting of the Committee on the Agro-Industrial Complex and Rural Development of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, deputies discussed the progress of fodder procurement and the preliminary results of the 2025 harvest campaign.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Assembly Denis Bakiev, members of parliament, government representatives and heads of agricultural enterprises.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, fodder procurement in the region’s farms is proceeding according to schedule. Work rates this year are somewhat higher than last year’s and correspond to average annual figures. To date, farmers have harvested 736 thousand tons of silage and 135 thousand tons of hay.
More than 6,000 units of equipment are involved in fodder harvesting operations. Special attention is being paid to harvesting high-nutrient silage for the dairy herd.
“At least 28 centners of feed must be prepared for each cow in the region. The region’s farmers are successfully coping with this task — silage has already exceeded the plan by 113%, and hay has been harvested almost completely. This is a reliable basis for supplying the region with milk and meat. Well-fed cows mean stable supplies of quality products to the region’s store shelves,” said Igor Tyurin.
Alongside fodder procurement, the region’s harvest campaign continues. It was noted that grain crop yields are higher than last year’s and amount to 35.6 centners per hectare. Farmers have also begun harvesting potatoes, vegetables, rapeseed and long-stem flax. According to preliminary forecasts, the total gross grain harvest is expected to be in the range of 1.7–1.8 million tons.
In addition, winter crop sowing for next year’s harvest has already begun in the region. More than 11 thousand hectares have been sown; the overall plan is 230 thousand hectares.
“I am confident that, if good weather conditions persist, farmers will complete the planned volume of work. Today’s pace of fodder procurement is cause for satisfaction. It is of key importance not only for ensuring the region’s food security but also for the development of the entire agro-industrial complex. The region has established a stable support system for the agro-industrial complex that provides for the allocation of funds from both federal and regional budgets to support agricultural producers. Thanks to this, we can achieve the planned targets and ensure the stable development of the agricultural sector,” said Legislative Assembly Speaker Evgeny Lyulin.
