      United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has launched the corporate online marathon "Begy-Idi" for employees of enterprises from more than 40 regions of Russia. Participants can choose one of two formats — walking or running, the company's press service reports.

      The competition started on August 16 and will run until September 7. Each team must cover one of two distances: either walk a total of one million steps or run 500 kilometers.

      Walking teams are formed of five people, and running teams of four. Participants independently determine a convenient route, time and frequency of training based on their personal capabilities.

      According to Dmitry Kadyaev, coordinator of physical culture and mass sports at OMK's Vyksa plant, the company has been conducting similar initiatives since 2020. He noted that the events are aimed at strengthening team spirit and promoting a healthy lifestyle among employees.

      "We have found that sport interests many of our colleagues. Bike rides, runs, ski outings and walking always receive a strong response. All results are recorded in a special application that automatically counts steps and mileage for both individual participants and teams. The information is accessible to everyone," Kadyaev explained.

      Participants will receive commemorative souvenirs, but, organizers emphasize, the main goal of the marathon is to improve health, foster team interaction and good spirits.
