In Nizhny Novgorod, doctors at City Clinical Hospital No. 39 performed a unique operation that saved the life of a man who had suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. This case was reported by the Telegram channel "Bokal Presseka".

A 12-centimeter nail penetrated the victim's head to a significant depth, puncturing the skull and damaging the brain. Despite the high degree of risk, the neurosurgeons managed to extract the foreign object and stabilize the patient's condition.

The surgical intervention lasted more than three hours. It was performed by the head of Neurosurgical Department No. 1 of City Clinical Hospital No. 39, Alexander Lavrenyuk, and Candidate of Medical Sciences, neurosurgeon Pavel Smirnov.

After the operation the man remained in the hospital for 53 days. Of those, he spent 40 days in the intensive care unit, in a coma.

Thanks to the efforts of the medical team, the patient was brought out of critical condition. He is now undergoing a course of rehabilitation.

Earlier it was reported that Nizhny Novgorod doctors had managed to save a schoolboy's arm from amputation.
