Incidents: A 24-year-old resident of the Kanavinsky district of Nizhny Novgorod fell victim to telephone fraudsters and handed them almost half a million rubles. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

According to available information, unknown callers phoned the woman and identified themselves as tax officials. They informed her that allegedly suspicious transactions were occurring on her account and that someone was trying to gain access to the funds.

To "save" the money, the criminals persuaded her to take out a bank loan for 142,595 rubles. She then borrowed another 300,000 from acquaintances and, following the callers' instructions, transferred the entire sum to a so-called safe account.

The total loss amounted to almost half a million rubles.

Police have opened a criminal case on fraud. Law enforcement officers are now trying to establish the identities of the perpetrators.

Earlier it was reported that residents of the Nizhny Novgorod Region handed over more than 71 million rubles to scammers in a week.
