A man from Nizhny Novgorod was sentenced to 12 years in prison for killing someone with an axe.

      Incidents. In Nizhny Novgorod a 65-year-old local resident has been found guilty of intentional murder committed with particular cruelty. The court handed down this decision based on materials collected by the investigative department for the Avtozavodsky District of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      According to the investigation, the tragedy occurred on 23 February 2025 in a private house on 3rd Line in the settlement of Novoye Doskino. That day two neighbors were drinking alcohol, and a conflict arose between them that escalated into a brutal attack.

      During the quarrel the man grabbed an axe and delivered at least 34 blows to his acquaintance’s head. After that he continued the beating, using scissors with which he inflicted multiple stab and slash wounds to the body. The victim died at the scene from the sustained injuries.

      The court found the man guilty under point “d” of part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — murder committed with particular cruelty. He was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment to be served in a strict-regime correctional colony. In addition, after his release he will be restricted in his freedom for 1 year and 6 months.

      Earlier it was reported that a criminal case had been opened in the Sokolsky District against a local resident suspected of attempted murder.
