      The total sown area in the Nizhny Novgorod Region for next year’s harvest reached 1.1 million hectares. These figures were published by Nizhegorodstat.

      Grain crops account for the largest share — they were sown on 618 thousand hectares. Industrial crops were planted on 87 thousand hectares, potatoes on 27 thousand hectares, vegetables on 5 thousand hectares. Forage crops occupied 323 thousand hectares.

      Compared with last year, the region recorded increases in sown areas for a number of crops. Thus, the area under wheat increased by 2%, triticale increased threefold, and corn by 33%. Pea plantings grew by 4%, long-staple flax by 15%, sunflower by 36%, soybeans increased 2.5-fold, rapeseed by 7%, and table beets by 2%.

      Farmers in the Pochinkovsky, Bolshemurashkinsky, Lukoyanovsky, Vadsky, Vachsky and several other municipal districts showed the greatest activity in expanding sowing areas.

      Earlier it was reported that wheat yields amount to 35.5 centners per hectare, which exceeds last year’s result by 7.7%.
