Incidents. In Dzerzhinsk, a 67-year-old man became the victim of telephone scammers who, under the pretext of "declaring savings," convinced him to hand over all his savings. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

The pensioner was first called on his landline and then on his mobile phone. Posing as employees of the military prosecutor's office and the company Rostelecom, the unknown individuals said that the man urgently needed to declare all his money for verification.

According to the criminals, for this he had to hand over the cash to a courier whom they "sent from state authorities." The elderly man believed them and, fearing trouble, agreed.

A couple of hours after the call, a man did indeed come to him, whom the pensioner met right in the corridor of his apartment. He handed him 1,025,000 rubles.

When after that the "representatives of the agencies" stopped responding, the man realized he had been deceived and went to the police.

A criminal case has now been opened on a charge of fraud. Such a crime carries up to 10 years' imprisonment.

Earlier it was reported that five employees of a commercial firm were caught in a 250 million ruble fraud while fulfilling a state defense contract.
