An exhibition titled "Heroes of the Rear. Pages of Memory" (12+) has opened in Chkalovsk, organized by the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Information Center with the support of the "Creative Practices Team." The grand opening took place on August 5 at the Valery Chkalov Cultural Center.

"The rear is, of course, about Chkalovsk. It has historically been our fate that during difficult events and wars, we are in the rear. And enormous thanks to those who are here now. You have shown that memory is not just a word. It is a matter, it is our duty. This project is a contribution to our very important collective cause," said Aleksei Kuteynikov, Deputy Head of Chkalovsk.

Julia Polyakova, a columnist for the newspaper "Nizhny Novgorod Truth," shared about how residents of the Gorky region and Chkalovsk district contributed to Victory during the Great Patriotic War.

The project team studied over 4,000 pages of the "Gorkovskaya Kommunа" newspaper and prepared 45 photo reproductions of newspaper strips depicting various episodes of regional life during wartime. The materials include specific names and stories of people working in the rear: in fields, on farms, and at factories.

Using augmented reality technology, the pages come to life: by pointing a phone camera at the poster, visitors can see archival footage and listen to authentic memories. The project also created 10 videos about the selfless work of women, children, kolkhoz residents, assistance to evacuees, and packing parcels for the front.

The exhibition is supplemented by a collection of real wartime artifacts provided by the Nizhny Novgorod search organization "Kurgan." Among the exhibits are helmets, canteens, a sappers' shovel, and other finds from the battlefields.

Andrey Dmitriyev, a columnist for the newspaper "Land of Nizhny Novgorod," spoke about the project "Returned Names" and the fates of three soldiers from Chkalovsk. He managed to establish that Alexander Danilychev, listed as missing in action, died in captivity in Poland. Alexander Rubtsov died at the Auschwitz camp in May 1942. Tanker Grigory Kuzovenkov was killed on October 11, 1941, in the battle for the city of Medyn in the Kaluga region. The editor of the district newspaper "Znamya," Irina Kiryikova, added facts about the lives of Chkalovsk residents during the war.

The exhibition also features works by participants of a creative contest dedicated to the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland. All visitors received a special issue of "Nizhny Novgorod Truth" with materials about the Great Patriotic War.

Among the visitors were also those currently helping participants of the special military operation (SMO).

The exhibition in Chkalovsk will run until August 17. Afterward, the project will continue in other cities of the Nizhny Novgorod region — Bор, Bogorodsk, Pavlov, Dallye Konstantinovo, Lyskov, Vorotynets, Pilna, and Kstovo.

The project is scheduled to conclude in December.

Previously, this exhibition was presented in Nizhny Novgorod.
