A woman from Nizhny Novgorod lost over 5 million rubles while trying to cancel a supposedly questionable operation.
A 21-year-old local resident reported a fraud to the duty station of Police Department No. 3 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod. The girl stated that she received a call on her phone from an unknown person claiming to be a bank employee, who informed her that third parties, having obtained her personal data, were attempting to issue loans in her name. According to the false bank employee, to protect against illegal actions, she needed to independently take out loans and transfer all funds—both credit and personal savings—to "safe accounts."
Without doubting the truth of these statements, the woman from Nizhny Novgorod arranged several loans in different banks across the city and transferred 5,314,000 rubles, including her personal savings, to unknown accounts.
A criminal case has been initiated under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of Russia (fraud).
Currently, police officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
To prevent such cases, police urge citizens to remain vigilant. Remember that the safety of your savings also depends on your decisions. If you receive calls from alleged bank representatives or other officials regarding suspicious operations on your account or card, end the conversation and independently verify by calling the bank at the phone number on the back of your card. Remember, there are no completely safe accounts!
If you become a victim of illegal actions or scams, block your bank card immediately and contact the law enforcement authorities or call police at 02 or 102 (from a mobile phone).
