The residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region are warned against using nasal sprays containing Melanotan-2, which have become popular among those seeking to quickly achieve a "bronzed" skin tone. This was reported on the Telegram channel "Bokal Presseka."

Women are most often using this method of tanning. Melanotan-2 is a synthetic version of the melanocyte-stimulating hormone, which influences melanin production—the pigment responsible for skin color. However, this drug is not officially registered in Russia.

The drug has gained an unofficial nickname, "Barbie drug," due to its side effects. It not only enhances tanning but can also increase libido and suppress appetite, sometimes leading to rapid weight loss. According to some women, after use, their moles darkened sharply.

Medical professionals warn that using Melanotan-2 can lead to dangerous consequences. Pavel Gorodnichyov, head of the clinic at the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the GNTsDK, stated that the drug increases the risk of hyperpigmentation and may contribute to the development of malignant tumors.

He mentioned that in the United Kingdom, a case was already recorded where a woman developed a tumor of the upper jaw after using Melanotan-2. Doctors strongly recommend that residents of Nizhny Novgorod avoid such substances and not jeopardize their health unnecessarily.

Earlier, Nizhny Novgorod residents were warned about "electric scooter scoliosis."
