During a triathlon competition in Nizhny Novgorod, Andrey Pulyaev, who died, turned out to be the Russian champion in ice water swimming. This was told to TASS by Dmitry Barenin, chairman of the Federation of Winter Swimming of the Ryazan Region.
It is worth recalling that during the swim segment of the IRONSTAR 113 Nizhny Novgorod triathlon, Ryazan athlete tragically died. He became ill near the finish line of the water stage, and medical personnel were unable to help him.
According to Barenin, the athlete was in excellent physical shape and regularly subjected himself to high loads. He trained daily, participated in triathlons in the summer, and in winter — in extreme ice water swims.
Andrey Pulyaev held a sports rank in swimming and worked as a coach for about ten years. He repeatedly participated in triathlon events on distances of 113 and 226 kilometers, passing mandatory medical examinations like all competition participants.
The athlete's body was transferred from the morgue in the morning; it is now being taken home.
Earlier, it was reported that the causes of the athlete's death are being established not only by medical professionals but also by the Investigative Committee of Russia.
