In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the head of the regional branch of the State Fund "Defenders of the Fatherland," Ekaterina Generalova, ceremoniously handed over the keys to a hand-controlled vehicle to a veteran of the SVO with lower limb amputations.
"We handed over the second hand-controlled car in the Nizhny Novgorod region to SVO veteran Ilya Gorokhov. I am confident that this vehicle will help him lead a full and active life. The initiative of the 'Defenders of the Fatherland' fund to include hand-controlled vehicles in the list of rehabilitation technical means was supported by Russian President Vladimir Putin. In April, the chair of the 'Defenders of the Fatherland' fund, Anna Civilova, addressed him with this request during a meeting. Now, this support measure is being implemented by the fund," said Ekaterina Generalova, head of the 'Defenders of the Fatherland' branch in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
SVO veteran Ilya Gorokhov was awarded the Medal of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" II class for successfully accomplishing tasks during the SVO. A severe injury leading to amputation of his lower limbs does not prevent Ilya from leading an active lifestyle. After returning from the SVO zone, he initially thought he would no longer be able to operate a vehicle. The veteran contacted the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the 'Defenders of the Fatherland' fund after learning that the fund could provide him with a hand-controlled vehicle free of charge as a rehabilitation technical device.
"I am very grateful to the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the 'Defenders of the Fatherland' fund for the assistance they provide us. My social coordinator is always in touch with me and solves all arising issues. Now I will be able to be independent in moving around the city," said the veteran of combat operations.
