Deputy Chairman of the Orenburg City Council detained in Nizhny Novgorod

      The acting deputy chairman of the Orenburg City Council, Artyom Safiullin, was detained in Nizhny Novgorod. This was reported by Ural56.Ru citing its sources on August 4, 2025. According to Ural56.Ru, Safiullin is suspected of fraud. He was detained for 72 hours, after which the court will decide whether to remand him in custody. The detention may be connected to the activities of the company "Dmstroy" (led by Artyom Safiullin) and several other firms associated with him. In Chkalovsk, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, a contract was signed in 2023 for work on wastewater treatment facilities totaling approximately 124 million rubles. The contractor was LLC "MEK," whose interests were represented by Safiullin under a power of attorney. The contract's cost may have been artificially inflated through modifications to the estimate for equipment supplies. He could have claimed that the initially specified equipment became unavailable due to sanctions. New amounts were calculated in Orenburg. The Chkalovsk administration could have overpaid by about 35 million rubles. Additionally, it became known earlier that Artyom Safiullin decided not to run in the next city council election in 2025.
