      An investigation is underway in the Nizhny Novgorod region following the death of an elderly man on the railway. This was reported by the transport investigation department of the Central Interregional Investigative Committee of Russia.

      According to preliminary information, on the evening of July 31, 2025, on the section near the 427th kilometer of the Gorky Railway, near a level crossing in the vicinity of Doskino, an elderly man born in 1938 was crossing the railway tracks as an electric train "Lastochka" was approaching.

      As a result of the collision, the man sustained injuries incompatible with life and died at the scene.

      In connection with the incident, investigative authorities have initiated a pre-trial inspection for signs of violations of safety rules for railway traffic and operation (Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Russia). Experts are establishing all circumstances of the incident, including the presence of warning signals, the technical condition of the crossing, and the actions of the train crew.

      It is noted that this is already the second similar case in a short period. On July 24, 2025, at the 434th kilometer of the same railway, a man also died after crossing the tracks and being struck by a train.

      Investigators urge citizens to be especially cautious when crossing railway tracks and to strictly follow safety rules to prevent tragedies.

      It was previously reported that a freight train near Nizhny Novgorod fatally struck a woman.
