Ministry of Health: patients at Nizhny Novgorod Hospital No. 5 rated the nutrition a 4 out of 5.

      Society: Reader of NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" contacted the editorial office with a complaint about unappetizing food at City Clinical Hospital No. 5. As a result, a request was sent to the Ministry of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      The Ministry explained that since 2023, the hospital has had its own catering unit. Its creation was part of the reorganization of the therapeutic nutrition system. The preparation of meals is handled by the hospital's regular staff.

      According to the response received, meals are organized according to a seven-day menu that meets therapeutic diet requirements. Features of such diets—reduced salt, sugar, animal fats, and the absence of spices and sauces—may affect the taste quality of the food. The ministry clarified that complaints from patients are most often related to this.

      At the same time, the department emphasized that therapeutic nutrition aims to restore the body's balance and promote recovery.

      The quality of prepared dishes is checked daily by a quality control commission. Sample portions are taken before food is delivered to hospital wards. According to the commission, since the launch of the catering unit, all dishes have been deemed suitable for serving.

      Since 2023, the institution has also regularly conducted patient surveys on nutrition. The surveys are conducted every six months, and additionally if necessary. Each survey involves 150 to 200 participants. The average rating for food quality over three years has been 4.0 out of 5.

      The hospital noted that this practice allows for receiving feedback from patients and, if necessary, adjusting the organization of nutrition.
