On the eve of Railway Workers' Day, the regional branch of the United Russia party and the Public Support Headquarters organized an excursion to the Children's Railway of Nizhny Novgorod for the wardsof the "Lastochka" social rehabilitation center. More than 20 children were able to learn about how the railway communication system is organized.
"Children who find themselves in difficult life situations often cannot boast of a happy past. That's why it's even more important to provide these boys and girls not only with comfort and conditions for normal schooling but also to focus on their future adult life. We must already now open new horizons for them and introduce various professions. On the eve of Railway Workers' Day, we offered the children a dive into this profession, to learn its features and feel the romance of train travel," noted Dmitry Filipenko, head of the regional executive committee of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of United Russia.
The excursion program began at the railway museum. The children were told about the history of the Children's Railway and the State Railway. They saw many rare exhibits, learned how train movement was regulated in the past, and what signals looked like. Museum staff emphasized that the Children's Railway is not an attraction: everything operates in real life.
"Our main task is to spark the children's interest in the work of railway workers. We make sure to thoroughly explain each of the main professions. And, of course, we clarify that on the Children's Railway, they can try roles such as driver, conductor, or dispatcher," shared Natalia Fadeyev, a specialist in cultural and mass work at the Children's Railway of Nizhny Novgorod.
The most awaited part of the excursion was a train ride. The guests were taken by their peers — students of the Children's Railway. The route ran through the stations Rodina, Schastlivaya, and Pushkino.
"I'm very interested in studying at the Children's Railway. But I love the most going on trips. You communicate with real passengers. They are all different, and as a conductor, I have to always be polite and friendly. I also like that we change professions. Tomorrow I could become a locomotive driver," shared 12-year-old conductor of the Nizhny Novgorod Children's Railway Artyom.
All the children from the "Lastochka" social rehabilitation center were satisfied. According to the kids, they had gone on such a journey for the first time in their lives. Some were even inspired by the young employees of the Children's Railway.
"Everything is really cool! I haven't decided yet, of course, but I liked everything: the atmosphere of the railway, how the conductors welcomed us, and how the children work together. Maybe when the time comes, I will become a conductor myself," said 10-year-old Milana, a graduate of the SOCP "Lastochka" GBU in the Nizhny Novgorod district of Nizhny Novgorod.
Later, regional activists of the "Young Guard" of United Russia of Nizhny Novgorod oblast visited the "Lastochka" electric train to congratulate the conductors on the holiday. They presented a dozen gift sets and bouquets of flowers — symbols of respect for their work.
"Today we honor those who make the travels of millions of Russians safe and comfortable. Their work reflects the face of the industry! The railway connects the economy, culture, and people. Without it, the development of the Far East, Siberia, and the entire country would be unthinkable. Youth involved in RZD projects — whether it’s station renovation or digitalization of tracks — contributes to national security. Stories of hero railway workers, like partisan underground fighter Fyodor Malyshev, who blew up fascist echelons in 1942, remind us that steel highways have always been Russia’s strategic shield," emphasized Roman Zykov, leader of the regional branch of the "Young Guard" and a veteran of the SVO.
The conductors were caught off guard while at their workplaces: the women greeted the Young Guard members with surprised smiles, thanked them, shared stories from working practice, and happily posed for joint photos. The event created a truly festive mood.
"Every passenger is important to us — from veterans to tourists. And this day is, of course, special for us. Such attention from the youth motivates us to preserve the hospitality traditions laid down by Soviet railway workers," said Darya Lukina, a train conductor.
